Excellent Cuisine Chinese Food Restaurant

Went here for dim sum with the family. Place was busy and service was okay. I wish they itemized the receipt better but otherwise the service was satisfactory. The food was good. Nothing stood out in particular but it is a solid place to go to for dim sum.

Our first stop off a 07:30 am flight from NJ on Sunday! Amazing, we arrived about 10:45 and had about 10 minute wait for 2 people. The service is so lovely. We asked for the rice noodle with beef and shrimp and the bun cart associate was kind enough to go to the other associate and remind them to come to our table !! All the food was great. Particularly loved the lotus sticky rice, shumai, crispy turnip cake and pea shoots. By the time we left about 12:15 line about 45 minutes. Very reasonably priced: huge lunch and leftovers for 2 people $104 + tax. Very accommodating with leftover containers.

Hit all the marks for what we look for in a dim sum restaurant. Of course they offer a full compliment of Chinese fare, but let's be honest: we came for the dim sum. Parking was good this day, but may get crowded at times. They have a fairly large off street lot and when we arrived there were quite a few available...but they were just ramping up. As we were leaving, 5 cars were waiting to turn into the lot - so maybe get there early. Service was really friendly - more welcoming than most. But the food - they hit the mark with all the favorites. I wanted for nothing and ate them all and had to be squeezed out the double doors when the feeding frenzy was over. Handicapped accessible - all on the ground floor and handicapped spaces right up front. It hit the mark on all levels and we will be back again and again.

Only if we could give a NEGATIVE star for their service. A friend recommended this place so we went there for dinner on a weekend. It was pretty slow with 2 waitress working, and there were only 2 tables dining in. We ordered bbq pork and roast duck combination plate. The portion of the bbq pork and duck plate was very small (for a cost of $33). The quality of the BBQ pork was sub-standard and the worst we've ever had. The bbq pork skin was not crispy as it is supposed to be. It is chewy as if you are biting a plastic. Worst of all, the waitress was rude and refused to even look at the customers when we were ordering the food. When we asked for more hot tea, she claimed the hot tea was free so they were not obligated to refill. We also saw a gentleman from another table looking around for their attention so they could have more tea. Yet the waitress simply sat far away staring at us and did not want to provide basic service. The gentleman from another table (customer) had to go to the server station to get more tea himself. As a former server myself, I felt sorry for the owner since such service or lack of service is not helping with their business in the long run. NOT commended.

Having lived in places with big Cantonese populations, I have really missed good dim sum in Portland. This place is maybe the best I’ve tried so far. The dishes are hot and delicious and everything you would expect from dim sum. Expectations on service should be adjusted, there is a cultural difference in what service looks like - be ready to flag down carts for the food you want. Some favorites: Dan tat Chow fun Shui Mai (I wish these were a little smaller but they were delicious) Sticky rice

The dim sum was very good, similar to the ones we had in Hong Kong. Big size shrimp was so good, it’s not on the menu, definitely a must order, they told us it’s called haihuangjiao 海皇饺. The red rice roll was delicious! 🤤 Service is nice, but they need to hire more people.

Service are ..okay? I guess… and the manager will stare at you, while you are eating. I was like ??? The main point is I think the food are really really normal, like, I don’t even know why I don’t just buy some frozen dim sum and cook by myself. Their pork ribs and red rice roll are pretty good but the red rice roll are greasy, and one order have a lot of red rice roll, typically I will expect around 3 roll. And the price are not pretty either. I can just keep going on and on and on. Only good thing is this is a Cantonese restaurant as you expected lol.

Our normal dim sum place in Portland is HK Cafe, but we saw some great reviews now that Excellent Cuisine has new owners or management or just decided to up its game. So, we ventured in. First, there was a substantial wait, but we were determined. After about a 40 minute wait we were seated in a side room off the kitchen. It was okay, but the tables were tight and the carts had some difficulty getting into the room. The dim sum fare features typical favorites, but there are also some unique items. You can also order off the menu if dim sum is not your thing. The individual items were much larger in size than what you get at most dim sum places. And the BBQ buns contained much more meat than at other places. Because of this, the prices are higher, but still considered it a good ROI. We also tried something we had never seen before: the Red Rice Shrimp Roll. Fried shrimp were put in a red colored rice roll and served with several sauces. It was fantastic and a nice change. And, we feasted on the standards: Shu Mai, Har Gow, BBQ Buns, Turnip Cakes, Sesame Balls, etc. All were excellent. The parking can be a big challenge if you get there during prime hours (we ended up parking about two blocks away on a side street). We are looking forward to our next visit to Excellent Cuisine. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
