Duck House Chinese Restaurant

I don't normally give straight 5 stars across the board. Everything here was superb when I went. I took my brother from out of town and I have been looking for good Chinese food in this city... I just found it. The Pork Xiao Long Bao was our starter and it did not disappoint. The soup was hot and flavorful, the meat tender and well spiced. The dough was perfect! The chili oil is a great addition; not overly spicy, but good flavor. Since I rightly figured things were served family style, we split the other two dishes. The Chong Qing Style Prawns were ON POINT! Light and crispy and the kind of thing you can destroy an entire plate and crave more. I could stand them to be spicier, but I love hot food. If your pallet will allow you jalapeno, then you will have no problems here. The final dish we shared was Szechuan Beef Hot u0026 Spicy dried pot was spectacular! If you have never had a true Szechuan peppercorn, you are in for a treat. The peppercorn has a numbing effect, but also opens you pallet up like a flavor enhancer. Drinking my Manhattan was a new experience. The meat was tender and med spicy (for me) and the peppercorn just adds a whole new twist. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. Finally the table presentation was very attractive as it came out in a mini sizzling wok. I will be back, and I hope you find this little gem in Portland!

Bright and welcoming atmosphere, immediately upon being seated we were served a pot of tea which was absolutely delightful, and the shrimp and pork soup dumplings made a spectacular appetizer. When ordering the fried rice, we were asked how spicy we would like it and my friend did not want her spicy but I wanted mine to make me regret being born, so our server told us that he would be right back with a special pepper sauce, which is not the same pepper sauce that typically comes with the soup dumplings, although he did bring us that as well. No, this was specifically created to give the level of spice that I requested and oh my god it was DELICIOUS. The servings were huge so we needed to go boxes I poured that spicy pepper concoction directly onto the fried rice in my box and let me just say that it reheats BEAUTIFULLY. I WILL ABSOLUTELY BE COMING BACK.

It was a hot Sunday afternoon. We had just left the Rose Test Garden, and after meandering among the flowers for hours upon hours, we were in need of some quality sustenance. Duck House absolutely blew us away! The Szechuan Fried fish is the *best* item on the menu, crispy, spicy batter with moist and tender fish in the center. The Dan Dan noodles were like a comfort food meal grandma would make. The spicy garlic eggplant was succulent and the sauce was sweet and tangy, just to die for. The Lamb dry pot was served over a flame, still sizzling, all of the Szechuan spices playing elegantly with the lamb. Jason was a wonderful server, directing us toward the richest flavors they had to offer. He created a Szechuan spicy peppercorn margarita...the first margarita I willingly consumed. Don't sleep on this place!

My order online was for the egg flour soup, stir fried lamb with green onion, and rice. The soup was pretty good, but the only solids in it were the egg and corn. It definitely would have been better without the corn. The lamb was cooked well, but the sauce it was in was not very good. I hate that you have to order rice separately. It should be included with the entree.

We had a wonderful time here at Duck House! We ordered the chili wontons and they were absolutely incredible! We split the pork fried rice and Shrimp dry pot. Holy cow. Every bite of the shrimp dry pot was ecstasy, a fantastic balance of flavors. I wish we could have kept eating it forever. The chili wontons are so perfect, the chili oil is not super spicy, the wonton is light and perfectly cooked, the pork inside was tender and juicy. I can't wait to come back!

Food was decent and done well but 2 of the dishes we ordered lacked flavor, but the starter dumplings and wontons were delicious. Service was good and atmosphere was great with a well lit dining area. Would recommend to friends for average to good Chinese food.

I very much enjoyed this place!! The food portions were big and they were delicious!! They even have a bar and some drinks you can get. If you love szechuan and mala cooking, you should definitely come here!!!

(3.7/5) I had the pleasure trying something new! Northern china dishes 🔥 so.. the rice was a little bland. However the GREEN BEANS! Very good! The dumplings weren’t as spicy as told and the chicken in the chow mein could’ve been chopped better! I also don’t like the timing they serve the food . I’d like my dishes to come out altogether … there’s come out soon as it’s Cooked which can be differ in timing. The waiter was nice he gave a free drink to the infant we had with us however there were 2 other children under 8 with us and I thought it would’ve been cool if he got every child a free drink if that were the case. The sweet u0026’sour chicken platter comes with way more fruit then chicken and I feel like that doesn’t feed a family not everyone likes there meat sprinkled over tones of fruit. But the prices were great $89 for 4 adults 3 children. 6 platters .
