Finally a comparable camera store that is far superior than Pictureline! They even develop film and they sell or can order everything. Much better vibe and they have gallery showings for a great community-driven vision.

4.9 stars says it all (although, let's be honest, this place is a 5). This place is a film lovers dream - top notch gear, incredible staff, quick turnarounds with prints/scans, and an incredible selection of film. Seriously, going into the film fridge is like walking into a bank vault. And the prices are very reasonable given the rise in popularity in film over the years.

Such a cute shop with an excellent stock and range of items. They had an amazing selection of 35mm film and the staff was very helpful with recommendations. I also got an extra battery for my camera here. I bought some new to me types of film and my photos turned out amazing!! I’m not from the area and was just visiting when I happened to find this place. I wish they were located closer to me!! This place is a gem. Also, not photography related, but I asked the kind lady working there about food recommendations in the area and the place she told us to go to was excellent!!

I always love visiting Essential! Ken has a great store and has built a great community. Since I'm in somewhat regularly, most of the employees know me by name which. makes me feel pretty cool haha. I've taken a few classes at the University of Utah in film photography that requires some supplies that is hard to come by in person. Ken has gone above and beyond by asking for the class' syllabus and making sure he has it in stock at the store. I come here regularly for film and they have a great variety and a pretty fast turn around time for 35mm, medium format, and large format film. Today I brought by a film camera that I had a hard time opening and the employees and another customer took some time to help me open it, figure out how it works, and what film I could use with it. The community here is great, and the store is such an asset to the area! I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Thank you for all you do!!

I recently purchased a tripod and ND filter here, and I have nothing but good things to say about Essential. These guys are masters of their craft and incredibly kind. As a new photographer Ive gone in a handful of times with a million questions and they’re always sincere and willing to go out of their way to help me out. The products they carry are fantastic and they’re never pushing you to purchase anything you do not want while still being honest about the pros and cons of each piece of equipment. Having lived in much larger cities than SLC, I got used to big art scenes with lots of gallery showings. I haven’t been to one in the time that I lived here until the other weekend. I had a great time at the gallery showing they did for Andy Marsh. Very enjoyable and welcoming atmosphere, with a great space to show a lot of the photographers work. Make sure to visit when they feature an artist. Shop local!

Essential is a gift to SLC. The best part of the shop is its staff. Every time I go in the staff is friendly and helpful. As an amateur photographer, I have a lot of gaps in my knowledge and a lot of times don't quite know exactly what I'm looking for. I'm used to getting condescended to and sometimes outright embarrassed by staff at a lot of stores when I come in and ask for help. Not so with Essential, everyone, especially Ken, has been very helpful while never making me feel dumb for asking questions. Essential feels like a place that truly cares about photography and wants it to be accessible to everyone. I hope this place has a long and successful future ahead of it. Go in and give them a visit!
