I stay here occasionally when in the area and love the location. The breakfast is excellent, the pool is modern, clean and always a pleasure to use. It's a good choice for short stays or if flying from Birmingham but it's not without a few issues. Some of the staff are lacking in customer service skills. On two occasions now we arranged a late checkout with one member of staff, only for another member of staff the following day seemingly having no knowledge of it. Seems to be a lack of communication or adding notes to their system. I do have to say that the staff in the restaurant are amazing, so friendly and can't do enough for you. Prior to us arriving the hotel upgraded our room to another room type without a sofa bed for our child. My wife called to explain that this wouldn't be acceptable and so they reinstated the original room but tried to charge us full price, when we originally booked on a discounted travel agent rate. They eventually reinstated the original price but I have no idea what they were trying to do with our booking. Clearly something for their own benefit rather than ours. Parking on weekends is always difficult as the car park gets very full. On this occasion there was a wedding being held there and we only just managed to squeeze our car into the final very tight space left right up against a wall. It feels a bit rich that paying guests have to fight for spaces with people attending functions, but I guess that's the deal when this hotel doubles up as a private venue. Another problem we had on this occasion was a very damp, musty smell in our room, which at a guess might be down to the air conditioning unit needing servicing. We had to keep the window open throughout our stay to try to get some fresh air in. Overall the rooms here are fine, if a little dated and in need of a refresh, but the latest room we stayed in (370) wasn't very pleasant.
