Britannia Hotel Edinburgh

We had a rather creepy incident in this hotel. My girlfriend went out for a coffee in the morning, then a couple minutes after she returned to the room, one of the male employees entered our room without knocking. This happened just after 9.30am in the morning , when checkout is at 11am. I was still in bed, this person didn't say anything, but quickly left the room. A few minutes later he returned (this time knocked) and urged us to leave, but it wasn't even 10am. We ended up rushing, packing and left without taking a shower. It just did seem this person had followed my girlfriend back to the room and that is not very good news. The room was basic, but it was reflected in the price, although I have slept in better hostels. The room had a double bed that was rather two single beds pushed together with a small but annoying gap in between the mattresses. The hotel has a car park, but it's not free.

Stayed here on a Caledonian travel trip. Room was ok, faced the river at the back which was very noisy due to recent rain and rubbish windows. Breakfast was lovely, evening meal bizarre, lovely chicken korma and beef madras curries but no rice, roast pork and veg but no gravy, cheese but no crackers, amazing cakes (no cream) for pud.

The room and bathroom were unclean and frankly disgusting, the beds were hard as if we slept on wooden boards. When we tried to check in we were ignored and met with a frown by the people in the reception. The breakfast, however, was great! The check out was very smooth and the guy at that day was nice. Location is decent, close to Dean Village which is really pretty, it takes roughly 30 minutes to walk to the centre but you see a lot more by walking anyway so that's fine!

Lack of security. Items in room went missing during housekeeping, room left unlocked by staff. Booked 3 nights here in October 2023. On second day of stay, housekeeping entered the locked room to deliver fresh towels. Belongings left in the room were disturbed and moved about for no apparent reason. A few of my belongings went missing from the room at this time. The most important of these was a charger for a specific model of Canon camera. Replacement cost of the missing charger was later quoted to me by a local camera shop as 57 pounds. On third day of stay, room was entered by staff while I was out sightseeing, and my luggage was searched. I had previously left explicit instructions at the desk for nobody to enter my room, because of the aforementioned pilfering. When the staff members exited my room, they left the door unlocked and ajar with my belongings inside. Inquired several times at desk over missing items and why my room was entered and left unlocked. Reactions of staff ranged from feeble apologies, to ridicule and gaslighting, to hostility, threats, bullying, and gratuitous and irrelevant expressions of dislike for Americans. Was informed that this is not America and that if I continued to complain I would be ejected from the hotel. Was informed by staff at desk that the missing item had been found in the room (apparently when they entered the room and searched my luggage without permission). No it wasn't. What they found were generic and inexpensive phone chargers. The special-purpose and costly Canon branded CAMERA charger was never located, nor was I compensated for the loss of it. Unacceptable sloppiness of execution, lack of security, unprofessional and discourteous behavior of staff. This place is run like a criminal enterprise. Under no circumstances would I book another stay at this property.

We booked without looking at reviews, it was a decent price for a 3 star hotel. Not overly impressed. Our room stunk like mold, the bathroom obviously wasn’t cleaned very well. However we enjoyed the location, it was a bit of a walk from downtown but we enjoyed that. Check in and out was easy. If your looking for a place with food and shops close by, this is not the place to stay. And we probably wouldn’t stay here again, mostly because of the mold stench in our room!

The hotel is a 30-minute walk to Edinburgh Waverley station but there is public transport (buses/trams) within a 10-minute walk. On the day of arrival, the room we were given hadn't been cleaned (the floor was not vacuumed). When going out, we informed the reception and when we returned a few hours later, the floor had been vacuumed but then we realised that the bed sheets were not changed (we assume so because the sheets were not tucked in under the bed and they had some stains). Then we asked in the reception for a new room and we were given a significantly better room which we could tell that was properly cleaned. The rest of our stay was fine (we stayed 3 nights in total), although we have to warn prospective guests that Wifi is charged 7£/day, so we had to use our data. Finally, keep in mind that check-in is at 4pm and they're not much flexible about it.

Rooms were fine and clean. Reception staff did their job but were a little too efficient to the point of almost rude, a smile and hello, how can I help? goes a long way to giving a welcome

Betreten dieses Hotels nicht empfehlenswert!!! 😵Fast das ganze Haus wurde renoviert. Beim Hinlaufen zum Hotel konnte man in die Zimmer gucken die gerade Teil renoviert wurden. Und das war echt ekelig. Da wurde nicht abgedeckt. Und ich musste sogar meine komplette Matratze um 180grad drehen weil da im schulterbereich eine fette Kuhle in den Metallfedern war. An dem einen Tag haben die den Boden im Frühstücksbereich ausgerissen. Und dort wurde die Ausgabetheke samt Geschirr nicht abgedeckt und das geht mal gar nicht und am nächsten Morgen haben die Gäste von den Teller gegessen. Was ist das bitte für ein Managment. 70Pfund für die Nacht, nein Danke.
