10-31-2023 12:27We stayed in the Rox many years ago and thought it was nice and trendy but we were very disappointed this time. There was no atmosphere in the whole building. When we checked in we had 2 rooms booked in the same name but they gave us keys for rooms 102 and 406, we asked if we could change to be beside one another but they said no (we thought the hotel was full). We never saw another person in the hotel for the rest of our stay. The bed was okay and the shower was okay, it lacked pressure but was warm enough. The electric blinds for the velox windows didn't work so had to close /open by hand, not ideal. We went to breakfast at 9.30am and there was no one there apart from 1 staff member. There was no cooked breakfast, continental only, coffee matching was broken and the hot water for tea was lukewarm. Definitely wouldn't recommend or stay again.

10-06-2023 20:49Turned up to a deserted reception, rang the number on the desk but no one around, eventually someone turned up after I yelled hello. She told me no need to yell, which clearly there was. Room was fine, tidy enough. Breakfast area is a mess, poor service. Paid for breakfast but just left as didn't have high hopes. Reception deserted again at check out only too see the staff member come in from outside with her drink she clearly left her post to get.

08-08-2023 04:57Apparently this hotel has just recently come under new management well someone needs to take a good grip of the reins, from the street you would walk straight past but as you enter it is beautiful, all the public areas are very nice and smell lovely but the bedrooms are truly lacking. Great big comfy Hypnos beds but no mattress or pillow protectors, serious lack of housekeeping in fact I don’t even know if they do housekeeping, nothing was replenished during my stay. Ihad to ask for things. I don’t ask for much from a hotel stay but things like dusting, hovering ,change of towels, toilet rolls, replacement of coffee etc, tv remote ,working light bulbs, clean tiles and taps around the bath and shower and especially HOT water are all basic. Breakfast well !!!! If you like yours overcooked and cold you’ll enjoy it. Surely more attention to detail is required to keep those four stars.

07-27-2023 15:09Booked the Rox in a rush Needed a room for one night Wouldn't want to stay here any longer The room is located through a warren of corridors Very spacious room Decor is in need of a spruce up Walls and skirtings were flaking and marked Carpet was stained Double bed was two singles pushed together with a very noticeable join in the middle which you felt Coffee station was a pull out drawer but the kettle cord didn't reach the socket so would have to moved For a double room there was only one cup and glass Guess you're supposed to share And the biggest disappointment was there was no hot water in the morning Read previous reviews and this seems a common occurrence Made this known to front desk on check out and was told that if everybody is having showers at the same time then there would obviously be no hot water Yet its funny that she also said she had to reset the boiler The only thing this place has going for it is the central location Will never book here again Avoid

07-21-2023 19:00Need a massive deep clean. Booked for two nights was there for 25 minutes. Hadn't seen a dust in weeks, needed a hoover, heating/Aircon didn't work, tiny window that you couldn't open. Toilet roll holder and lamp switches hanging off the wall. Cracks under shower. Definitely not four star!

04-06-2023 00:22Stayed for one night, might look a bit dodgy from the outside but was actually really nice. Staff were so nice and helpful, our room was really big and the bed and pillows comfy. We were at the backnof the hotel so was really quiet. Breakfast order taken at your table, and a small continental breakfast available for self serving along with cereals etc. Great location in the city centre. Would def stay here again.

04-01-2023 04:13When we arrived we were told that there was no hot water. So they were giving guests £20 in the form of a bar voucher for drinks. Even though the bar was a tip and not even open. No draught beer and the desk assistant had to come down to open it to serve us. But what use is a bar voucher if you don't drink? The guy at check in was wearing his jacket and a cap while serving us. Hardly understood a lot of what he said. Very poor way to address anybody. Gave me my key but had to come down 3 times because it wouldn't work. Eventually someone came up and they couldn't get our key to work either. Got that fixed eventually. Room itself is very dated and marks all over the walls. A superior room with a view of air ducts? Bed and bathroom were clean, however when I tried the shower (cold one) the pole attached to the wall that holds the shower head came off the wall. Never stayed in such a poorly run place in a long long time and thankfully I won't need to go back.

03-27-2023 08:26My group of three stayed in this hotel (each had own room) for one night on September 19th, 2023. Upon arrival, I was notified that there was no hot water. I was given £25 off my stay for the inconvenience. The first person in my group got to their room to find that someone was already staying in that room and walked in on them. They went back down to the front desk and were given a different room. My room had the pullout couch fully deployed when I walked in for some reason. Some rain came in during the evening and I could hear a dripping noise on my ceiling above the couch as I went to bed. I woke up about an hour later to the sound of water pouring onto the couch from the ceiling followed by steady dripping again. I went to the front desk to get a different room, but was told all rooms were completely booked and that there was zero availability at every other nearby hotel. So they gave me a trashcan and some towels to put under the leaking ceiling. The next morning they gave me the email of the manager to try and get a refund for my stay. I emailed them that day and have not heard back. To Rox's credit, the staff was friendly and polite.
