Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Halifax

We placed our son in Kumon from grade 4 up until he graduated from grade 12. He had problem with math and reading. My wife about the program from a friend so we gave it a try. To say our son enjoyed this at the beginning would not be true. There was a lot of frustrations on both his part and ours, but not because of the program, it was because he didn’t want to do the extra work. Over the years he was in the program the frustrations became less until there was none. The staff at the centre were very helpful and provided a strict regime. I believe this is needed and extremely helpful at least for my son to get into the habit for completing the work. Yes, he had to redo work occasionally until he could complete it without mistakes, this I believe was very helpful in a couple of ways, it taught my son that practice makes perfect and also that it is ok to make mistakes as long as you can learn from them to make yourself better. If you want a program that will just push you child through without correcting their mistakes, then this program is not for you. As for some of the comments about the staff in the reviews, I don’t believe them, yes they can be strict but I feel that this is necessary. Janet and the rest of the staff that where involved with my sons learning at Kumon where amazing and extremely helpful and very excited when my son achieved the next level of the program. I feel this program helped my son learn the fundamentals he required to complete high school with high honours as well as school awards through learning. He went on to complete a diploma at the NSCC and I believe all of this is directly attributed to Kumon. I highly recommend this program to anyone with kids that need extra help with math and reading. Thank you Janet and staff for all the outstanding help you provided my son over the many years he was in your program.
