The Taste of Transylvania

If you haven't tried Romanian food, a visit to The Taste of Transylvania might just be the sort of transformative experience you never knew you needed! Our group of 6 enjoyed a selection from their menu. I knew almost nothing about Transylvanian food, nor anything Romanian, so everything was pretty much a new experience. I particularly enjoyed the langos here, and my favourite item would be the tocanita, but I’d be happy to order any of these again especially if dining with others who haven’t tried these dishes before. Also keen to try some of the desserts next time. Our order: * feta cheese pie (with dill shallots), $10 * salad langos, $10 * chicken tocanita (stew) with polenta, $10 * beef mititei (grilled mini sausages) with chips and salad, $15 * sarmale (cabbage rolls with smoked pork), $10 * home made lemonade / fruit punch, $5? Can’t remember if I’ve tried langos before, but these taste superior to what I thought they’d be like so that’s a 👍 The cabbage wrap on the sarmale was super soft (can’t remember the duration but it’s cooked for quite a long time), and also found the mustardy sauce on the mititei quite appetising. The tocatina is available in a few protein options, thought I believe on a rotation of one per day, so we had chicken and that suited me fine. It’s also served with a side of pickled vegetables, adding another dimension to the dish. The lemonade was pretty nice too, I had the pink looking one which has added watermelon. Great accompaniment to our spread! It’s a pretty casual spot and I was honestly surprised by how good value the food was - winning all round if you ask me!

Absolutely delicious food at a great price! The owner Veronica was super friendly and helpful with our orders. The restaurant has a nice vibe and there’s a seating available outside! Highly recommend this place! 💯

I'd never had Romanian food before. This was an exciting find in west end. I was reading the menu and the very friendly woman working here beckoned me in for a closer look. She suggested the cheese pie which was absolutely amazing. I washed it down with the watermelon lemonade. This place deserves a visit

You will receive a very warm welcome from the owners, who are also the cooks, in this wonderful little restaurant. They work in a very small kitchen and serve people directly from the kitchen over a counter. There are a few little tables on a narrow verandah, with a casual and relaxed atmosphere, or you can takeaway. We had the cheese pie with shallots which was like a very thin flatbread with the ingredients inside, freshly cooked on a hotplate and served with a lemon wedge. It was a generous serving, crispy and so delicious! I got some freshly made vine leaf rolls to go, and they were beautiful! Lovely soft vine leaves and a tasty filling. I've not found anything like this in in Brisbane and we are keen to return for more of this delightful eastern European experience.

Delightful and cozy establishment in West End serving authentic Transylvanian u0026 Romanian cuisine. Plenty of street parking around and fantastic and cost effective food that is filling home made and absolutely delightful. Definitely recommend a trip to taste Veronica’s food and experience her warm, attentive and brilliant service. 100% will be back!

Lovely service here with amazing food. We were offered a sample of calamari when we were unsure of what to get and immediately ordered it along with a lamb platter and a home made lemonade. The food and service were both amazing and this homemade lemonade should be in stores.

Having been here a couple of times now, I can only say that eating here is never disappointing! Everything I've tried is amazing and I am slowly making my way through the menu (though I keep getting the langos every time because it is divine!) and the I haven't come across anything that hasn't been excellent! Everyone is delightful and a it is impossible to leave without feeling happy - such is the power of delicious food! 🥰 Great value, perfect portions and the tastiest food!

Good casual food, Langos taste very fresh, with a crispy and hot outer layer. They have other Hungarian foods to try aswell, we tried a cabbage dish that came with salad and very filling. Service is from owner, he is cheerful and wants to do a good job.
