11-25-2023 17:02The service was very memorable - welcoming, attentive and observant, but salesy in a way. The space is attractive and has atmosphere but despite the size and tall ceilings our adjacent diners felt unnerving close. The food was good but maybe not for the price. The burrata? It was savoured but I am not comparing it to much, more basil might have been good. The bread was only functional. The nori was super fun, brittle texture but didn’t shatter, and had a strong and lasting flavour. The accompanying tartare felt a little light on the sea flavour. The risotto alla allonda, was just ok, on this occasion pumpkin, parsley oil and caramelised pine nuts. The pine nuts didn’t pack as much punch as I expected and parsley oil was hard to find. The pumpkin was beautifully rich like the colour but the rice was almost grainy. By choice? I’m not sure. Dessert was also a strange mix of textures, the white chocolate was maybe a distraction from the smooth, soft textures and flavour of the mango. The wine stole the show and rightfully so - it feels like a wine bar first. Our waiter was more the happy to provide tastings and there was no questioning the serving size. Overall, if I was to return it would be for the wine and service.

09-02-2023 18:10📍 ALLONDA, NEWSTEAD, BRISBANE 🐟 Potato Rosti- taramasalata, pickled cucumber, salmon caviar ($12 each) 7/10 🍔 Tempura Market Fish Sandwich- tartare u0026 wasabi ($10 each) 9.5/10 🥩 300g Riverine sirloin- black garlic puree, celeriac remoulade and 65 cognac mustard ($65) 10/10 🥔 Crispy Chat Potatoes- pickled gherkin, sour cream and roasted sunflower seeds ($14) 9/10 🍷 Dodgy Brothers ‘Sellicks Foothills’ Shiraz ⭐️ Overall: 9/10 Review: Allonda is a lovely contemporary restaurant opposite Gasworks. Situated in an alleyway with their name projected on the wall, we loved the welcoming entrance. We got there a bit before our booking but they accommodated nicely. We sat inside in the ‘short dinner dinning room’ which allows for 1hr 45min sitting. We had a good seat near the open kitchen and bar which was nice. Started with the 2 ‘snack’ options. The potato rosti was perfectly crispy with layered potato on the inside. We both liked the taramasalata but thought the salmon caviar was a bit overpowering and the whole dish was quite fishy. The fish sandwich was delish with a soft brioche bun filled with a nice tender piece of tempura fish and fragrant sauce. I think a bit of lettuce would have added a fresh crispiness but it was fine without it. For the main we shared the sirloin and potatoes which work well together. I asked for the steak medium rare and they definitely delivered. The meat was perfectly tender with a crispy outside from the flame grill which was great. Absolutely loved the garlic puree and the rich sauce it was covered in. The potatoes were crispy and the sour cream added a lovely flavour and creaminess. I paired these with the celeriac remoulade and dipped them in the sauce from the steak which really elevated the flavours. Service was lovely and very efficient. I would recommend for a enjoyable dinner out.

08-02-2023 02:38-Seated upstairs, virtually no service - long wait for cocktails, long wait for mains -salad got missed out but no one to tell. -uncomfortable seats with very creaky floor, waitress knocked chair few times - super high prices plus service charge wheh there was no service -squid ink spaghetti was good -caviar overpowering the Rosti -interesting prawn cocktails. Glad to have tried regardless, would recommend not being seated upstairs.

05-17-2023 09:58Great experience. We had the $100 banquet and the food was beautiful. Presented well, great portion sizes and most importantly great flavours. The Bruschetta was incredible and the highlight as all ingredients were of such high quality. Service amazing as all staff were friendly, professional and attentive. Ambience was relaxing and elegant with a modern interior. The only downside was the price of wine as bottles were about $100 or more which we felt was a bit of the high side.
