This is the first hair salon I’ve ever been to since I moved to Sydney last year, and I can’t help but keep coming back because the all of the staffs did amazing job. This Tuesday I finally had a haircut after 3 years growing it long, and needless to say the result is excellent! Everyone complimented my new haircut and I’ve never felt prettier in a long time! 🥰 Thank you Noa for making me pretty! I had a scalp care treatment there too and it felt so good, it’s been a while since I felt this comfortable with someone massaging my scalp. The lady who washed my hair did a great job!

This is the worst hair salon I have ever experienced. I have frizzy hair, so once every 6 months I will get my hair chemically straightened with Japanese straightening. I went to several salon in Sydney and they have always came out excellent, so I thought Shinka can’t get this wrong either. However my hair was still frizzy after the service, and my hair got brittle and damaged due to being overdone with the chemical, even the bang trim at the end was horrible. Now my hair is very weak and still frizzy, and I have to wait for a few months before I can redo it again. I complained and they blamed on my hair because they were dyed before and straightened before- however I am only doing root straightening and i have always dyed my hair in the past too. Or if they cant’ do it they should have let me know before hand and denied the service. Instead they arranged me with a medicore stylish who can’t even cut the bang right and do straightening, this is such a shame of a big hairsalon chain like Shinka. Got my refund but this is not about the money, it is about the fact that I trusted you guys and you let me down, and I have to wait for a long time before I can fix my hair

Update: Amending the rating to reflect the great ‘fix’ offered by Shinka. Whilst Shinka doesn’t offer refund, it offers a ‘fix’ opportunity. I lodged the enquiry through their website and was contacted as soon as public holidays were over. Shout out to the stylist, Taka who was very professional in fixing my perm. Based on this fix experience, I’m happy to say that Shinka will still be my go-to for big hair style changes. The stylists from Shinka have always been professional. As I suggested previously, some customers really don’t mind having less experienced stylists. If this is assigned to a customer, it would be great as a courtesy to inform/discuss with the customer. This communication is vital and helps setting the expectations from the customers. ——————————————————— With heavy heart that I’m giving this review. I have been to various Shinkas. Been to this Shinka also a few times. This was always the one I chose whenever I wanted something new. I’m comparing this experience with how it used to be 5+ years ago. Someone used to greet you full of smiles when you were at the door, took your bag and clothes and put in lockers. They’d ask if you wanted tea or water once you were seated. None of that happened today. Now you need to check in by yourself. Put your stuff in the locker. No water or tea provided. That’s ok, my memory of good service provided by Shinka was 5+ years ago. I can understand that a business would have evolved after all these times. If you are bringing kids, then dont bother. None of them were kids friendly. No smiles until the stylist came to cut my daughter’s hair. The worst is yet to come. I chose ‘no preference’ when I made the booking. That doesn’t mean that I should be the ‘testing model’ for your newbies WITHOUT my consent. The girl who permed my hair wasnt experienced, which I didnt mind. But you should really explain to the customer and check if they are okay with it and that you’d offer discounted rate. Again, NONE. The guy who took the curls out, probably also did something wrong as I could tell by the way they talked. Again, no explanation whatsoever. Now after all, the stylist also didnt show me how my hair looks at the back. No mirror. Is that new again? Or just ignorance? At the end they charged full fee!!!!! They didnt even bother blowdrying my fringe. My fringe still looks dead straight and flat after the perm. I also dont know if is a new technology or some sort, they only perm my hair for 2 x 10min session. I was doing the same style for a lot longer at another japanese hair salon just 6 months ago. It took almost 2 hours to perm. So today at Shinka my perm (with the machine spinning above my head) took less than 30min in total. It’s really sad to see that a hair salon that used to be my #1 had become like this. No service at all. It’s become so commercial driven that it has lost my faith. None of the hair stylist looked happy. They dont chat with customers like the ones on Clarence and Castlereagh. Very disappointed to see this salon offering service like this with the premium rate they are charging.

Shinka Dymocks Building I’ve been to Shinka for a year now with 8 weekly appointments (after my previous hairdresser closed shop due to COVID) which I was very hesitant about however; I have had the best experience with every single appointment. My stylist is Mika and she is attentive, gorgeous and so friendly, she was empathetic towards my initial hesitations with colouring my hair however the result ended up perfect so I am now a returning customer, I always receive compliments on the colour of my hair. I’m really particular with the way my hair is cut but Mika always listens to what I want and always gets it right, there is honestly no better feeling than walking away so happy with the result as for most of my adult life I have walked away with botched haircuts and brassy hair at other salons. It’s a huge relief to have found someone I can trust! The new salon is very chic and spacious, they offer hot u0026 cold drinks which is a lovely touch and the wash u0026 head massage is absolutely heavenly. I have recommended Shinka to all my friends u0026 family and believe 5 stars is well deserved for Mika u0026 her team at the new Shinka Dymocks Building. ⭐️

I saw Noa at Dymocks’ Shinka today. Her ability to engage, to understand my expectation and her spontaneous and professional manner led to a great experience and outcome. I’m very happy with my hair cut. she skilfully worked on. Pleased on how she explained how to look after it, to style it and so on. Six stars. Thank you

When I asked for beachy blonde hair, I was given granny highlights instead, because In the stylist's opinion it would be better. Now I look 15 years older, and I paid $500 for it.

Service was mostly ok , staffs are friendly . Just a bit annoying that my hairdresser kept walking away and multi-tasking on several ppl at the same time
